Willow Youth Mental Health is an outpatient facility providing evaluation and treatment for a variety of mental health concerns for children and adolescents. We strive to provide care that is comprehensive, evidence-based, compassionate and takes a “whole child” approach - considering environmental, cultural, educational, biological and social factors which contribute to a child’s well-being. We believe in a team-based approach to care, and all of our employees work together and collaborate to provide the best care to each patient. Working Together for Positive Results.
How Willow Youth Mental Health Began
Dr. Smith worked in a variety of settings in and around Oklahoma City after completing her training in child psychiatry and came to realize how difficult it was to find quality outpatient psychiatric care for her patients, and in particular care that is tailored towards youth. She has had many conversations with pediatricians, family practice physicians, and adult psychiatrists who were treating the psychiatric needs of the young out of necessity, wishing that there was a child psychiatrist to whom she could refer their patients.
She decided to open Willow Youth Mental Health to serve her community by filling this void. She hopes to provide a place where children who are suffering and the families who care for them are heard and have expert treatment plans developed that are tailored to their specific circumstances.
Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation
The purpose of the initial visit is to clarify diagnoses and formulate a treatment plan. All pertinent medical and mental health records are reviewed and you will meet face to face with the physician, typically both child and family together as well as some time with the child alone.
Medication Management
If medication is a part of your treatment plan you will have regular appointments with your provider to monitor your response to medications, check for side effects, and for ongoing evaluation of your treatment needs.
Psychological Testing
This is a process that combines the administration of standardized tests that objectively measure behavior, interviews, and observation that can help clarify diagnoses and provide more detailed information regarding specific areas of functioning.
Psychotherapy
Often referred to as “talk therapy” our counseling, psychotherapy is a structured process of talking with a trained mental health professional in order to meet certain goals. These goals can vary widely and are individually set by each patient and/or family. Some common goals include developing coping skills, understanding patterns in both thinking and behavior that negatively affect your life, improving communication skills and helping families have more positive interactions.
